- Heat olive oil in skillet over medium heat; sauté onion until soft, add garlic and cumin, sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
- Combine sautéed ingredients with black beans, lime juice, salt, pepper (to taste), and cilantro, and the optional nutritional yeast in a blender or food processor; blend until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Serve immediately, or refrigerate up to 3 days.
Plating & Garnishing
- Serving: Transfer to a shallow bowl and smooth the top with the back of a spoon.
- Finish: A drizzle of olive oil, a pinch of smoked paprika, and a few cilantro leaves.
Safety & Quality: Cool and refrigerate the spread within 2 hours. Black beans are protein-rich and should be kept below 40°F (4°C) to prevent spoilage.
